Do you lust after creamy or ashy blonde hair but dread those brassy tones?
Or just avoid going blonde because your not sure how to best maintain your colour?
We hear you!
At Catal we LOVE creating beautiful blondes, but cringe when you return and its turned brassy and is no longer the dream colour you left with. So it’s our job to educate you. We want to teach you how to maintain those stunning shades we spend hours creating!
So here are our top 4 tips to keep your blonde classy not brassy!
Blonde Shampoo is a MUST!
I know you’re probably sick of us asking if you need more blonde shampoo at home, but here’s the facts… blonde shampoo is for maintenance only! It will NOT change your colour if its already turned brassy! It needs to be used from the moment you have your colour done!
You need to use it every time or every 2nd time you wash your hair. You can alternate it with something else your hair needs like, moisture or repair to combat those dry ends as well.
Some of our favourites are Medavita silver shampoo for ($29) or Eleven Blonde Me shampoo & conditioner ($28). We are also in love with the Mr. Smith Blonde, its not a shampoo but a toner and treatment all in one all for $60
Have a Touch Up At The Half Way Point!
If you’re an 8 week client or even a 10 week client having a toner at the half way point, either 4 or 5 weeks in, will prolong the life of your colour and keep your locks looking clean and fresh! A toner and blow-dry will take about 45 mins and will set you back about $60 with an emerging stylist. Book in on Friday or Saturday so you have fresh locks and a killer blow-dry for all your social events that all your friends will envy!
Olaplex is a Game Changer!
When you have your colour done the bonds of the hair are broken down to reform the new colour and structure of the hair. Olaplex, or any bonding service for that matter, when added into the bleach or colour, will start rebinding the hair as it is breaking down!
“What does this mean?” you ask…
Well if the bonds are broken down too much, the hair will snap or break, but if Olaplex is in there doing its job, we can push the colour further and get cleaner blonde results. Let me explain some more… have you ever seen really orange or yellow blonde and think why did they let her leave with that colour???
Well… its not quite that simple. At Catal, our main priority is to maintain the integrity of the hair over anything else. So if you do not have a bonding service we may need to compromise the colour result in order to keep the hair healthy. But with the help of Olaplex, we can achieve beautiful colour results and keep the hair as healthy as possible. It makes the toners job much easier if there is less warmth to tone out. So like I said Olaplex has changed the game and we cant get enough of it! Olaplex starts from $60
Heat fades colour!
I know you’re all reading this thinking you’re never giving up your blow dryer or your GHD hair wands, so forget it. But heat tools are not great for our colour or our hair! But, it’s not the only type of heat that fades our beautiful blondes, its time in the sun! Thats right… your Balinese holiday is ruining your beautiful blonde locks, but I wouldn’t dream of telling you not to spend time in the sun, or not styling your locks. But before you do there is one thing you need to protect your locks from fading…
You need a kick ass heat protector!
Its pretty simple really, just spray or rub it into your lengths and ends while your hair is damp, dry it in, or let it dry naturally, your call! At Catal, we stock some amazing and simple-to-use heat protectors that wont break the bank!
Our favourites are Eleven Miracle Treatment ($29.95). It has eleven benefits in total, so its way more than your average heat protector! We also love Mr Smith Leave In ($40) &Medavita Micro-Mist Emulsion ($35).
So there you have it, our 4 simple steps to keep those luscious locks looking their best! Now you’ll have all the tools to keeping your hair classy and not brassy!
